Summary of Bo Pelini’s Tuesday press conference

  • No starters will be announced before kickoff Saturday. Bo wants players fighting for their positions.
  • Brandon Thompson, backup offensive tackle, is questionable for Saturday with an ankle sprain. Everyone else is healthy.
  • Bo says it’s a misconception that teams account for a specific player (like Suh or Crick) and try to double team every down.
  • The most important defensive stat is scoring defense because that has the biggest impact on the outcome. Also, performance on third down.
  • All three quarterbacks can run, throw and understand the position. It’s a good problem to have.

Scoring defense is the most important stat. Shocking. You know, since it is the SCORE that determines the winner or loser.

I thought it was interesting that Bo said he has a good idea of who’s going to be the starting QB (at least for this week), but that player doesn’t know they will probably be the starter.

My brain says that Lee will be the guy… but as the incumbent, I would think that he would have a good idea if he were to be the starter.

If, as Pelini stated, Martinez can make all of the throws… what is keeping him from being the starter? Experience? Knowledge of the offense?

Could the hype be on target?
Wouldn’t it make sense to get him comfortable in these “warm up” games?
